Nucleomorph: A Fascinating Remnant of Endosymbiosis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Nucleomorphs are the reduced nuclei derived from endosymbionts found in some secondary symbiotic algae. Research into nucleomorph has provided many insights its role as a product of endosymbiosis, well resulting genome reduction and gene transfer. Recently developed biological techniques bioinformatic tools have enabled us to examine characteristics nucleomorphs more comprehensively than was previously possible. Moreover, new approaches synthetic biology begun emerge that may provide valuable platform study artificial endosymbiosis. Together, these technologies could allow greater mechanisms regulation genomic dynamics within nucleomorph.

Endosymbiosis
The phenomenon of endosymbiosis, or one organism living within another, has deeply impacted the evolution of life and continues to shape the ecology of countless species. Traditionally, biologists have viewed evolution as a largely bifurcating pattern, reflecting mutations and other changes in existing genetic information and the occasional speciation and divergence of lineages. While lineage b...
متن کاملComplete Nucleomorph Genome Sequence of the Nonphotosynthetic Alga Cryptomonas paramecium Reveals a Core Nucleomorph Gene Set
Nucleomorphs are the remnant nuclei of algal endosymbionts that were engulfed by nonphotosynthetic host eukaryotes. These peculiar organelles are found in cryptomonad and chlorarachniophyte algae, where they evolved from red and green algal endosymbionts, respectively. Despite their independent origins, cryptomonad and chlorarachniophyte nucleomorph genomes are similar in size and structure: th...

Larvae causing obligatory myiasis are numerous and they may affect cutaneous and subcutaneous tissues, wounds, nasopharyngeal cavities (nasal bots), internal organs and the digestive tract (bots) of domestic and wild animals and humans as well. Nasal bots belong to the Family Oestridae, Subfamily Oestrinae, which includes several important genera: Oestrus, Kirkioestrus, and Gedoelstia infecting...
متن کاملD N A in the Nucleomorph of Cryptomonas
According to the endosymbiont theory (cf. [1]), algal and higher plant plastids as well as eukaryote mitochondria are derived phylogenetically from pro karyotic intracellular symbionts. This hypothesis has recently been tested in several ways (cf., e.g., [2, 3]) and appears now to be well established, especially with respect to plastids. The plastid envelope normally consists of 2 mem branes....
متن کاملFascinating quasicrystals.
It took Dan Shechtman more than two years to get his discovery of an Al-Mn phase with icosahedral diffraction symmetry and sharp Bragg reflections published. A paradigm shift had to take place before this novel ordering state of matter - seemingly contradicting crystallographic laws - could be accepted. Today, more than 25 years later, the existence of quasicrystals is beyond doubt. However, no...
